New Painting

I tried my hand at another little painting for my exhibit at Steven's Tax Service in Punta Gorda.  It's not one of my best but was kind of fun.  See what you think?

Finished Indian Warrior

Well, I finished the Indian, be it as it may.  Karl Bodmer, BTW, was spelled Carl, with a "C" when he was young- then he changed the spelling to "K" later on.  Also, later on in his life changed his name to Charles.  I don't know why.  A very interesting character. I must delve into this man's bio more!  Anyway, he did these watercolors of the American Indians in 1833 on an excursion thru the American frontier.  It was very difficult to reproduce in acrylic -- a watercolor rendition --- Hence - you have this painting.

My Try at Karl Bodmer

I'm only puting this picture up here because I don't know if I will ever finish it or not.  I am not satisfied with it as I was not satisfied with "Mint".  So this painting may go by the wayside also.  I think, that is what these "BLOGS" are supposed to be all about??  Who knows?  I just muddle my way thru.  Anyway, I'll throw a picture up here and take a look-- then get very disappointed and probably give up on him too.  He is called "Warrior with a pipe" byKarl Bodmer.  Did not give him justice.  Have a lot of work to do-- Maybe when I come back from Washington-- I will give the background a punch!!!!

Newest Pen & Ink

I decided not to do "Mint", the Indian girl, which was a reproduction of Catlin's for the FAF.  I was having so much trouble doing it because the picture I had was so bad.  I just could not get a sense of the features or colors or anything and I felt I could not do the painting justice.  I was so frustrated and not having fun at all so I decided to paint over it.  In the mean time I found this engraving by Hugh Bridport of Big Elk so I decided to try my hand at trying him in Pen & Ink.  He turned out ok-- not great, but ok.  I 'm working on an Indian by Bodmer-- if he doesn't turn out,  I'll just paint over him.  At least I've done Big Elk and I can donate him this year to the Visual Art Center-- so I won't feel bad.  But I will try to perservere and paint the Sioux!  I promise!!!

Artist Reception

Well, The Artist Reception went very well at the VAC.  Many people showed up.  We had the overflow from the Chamber of Commerce because they were exchanging their business cards that nite so we all had good exposure.  I really had not expected to do this so unfortunately I had some pieces up that I couldn't take down (too late).  But, no matter, they are still there and will come home to me on the 29th. Oh, I found that silly Lemon Cake Eater Cartoon that my sister and I did years ago -- actually he is a "FUN" character and really means something to Cher and me .  That's why we both did him!

New Painting

Well, I can't believe I'm finally posting something after all this time.  I've finished teaching for a while.  Have an exhibit coming  up for the month of April. I will be in the Goff Gallery at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda.  I have not been  in that Gallery for a while.  We will be having a reception on April 14th the same night the Chamber of Commerce will have their meeting there so that should bring more people in.  Here is my attempt at something different for me.  Simply called:  "Oyster".  Not my best work that is for sure!

New year

Started teaching yesterday so that should keep me busy for  a while.  Didn't realize how long it's been since I have posted on this Blog.  I bought 3 new canvases that are just sitting in the Art room closet so I had better do something about that.  I am exhibiting at Cayo Costa Dental in Punta Gorda until the end of February. I had been exhibiting in Steven's Tax Service and just moved right over -- no sales yet ????
